Ariana Nasr & Curtis Thorpe
Ariana Nasr and Curtis Thorpe, both hailing from Nova Scotia, have been thrilling audiences with their dynamic performances for eight years. Their musical partnership began in 2016 when Curtis joined Ariana’s Édith Piaf tribute show, and they quickly discovered their artistic synergy. Since then, they have done innumerable performances together, captivating crowds in diverse venues with their eclectic repertoire, spanning jazz, blues, world classics, and French chanson.
The show highlights Ariana’s versatility as a vocalist as well as an instrumentalist (saxophone, accordion) while Curtis’ multi-instrumental wizardry completes the sound. Together, they breathe new life into old favorites, singing in multiple languages and making the classics their own.
About the Artists:
Growing up in a musical family afforded Ariana the opportunity to learn music early on, starting with piano and violin lessons. She then spent her adolescence completely focused on jazz saxophone (when she was not strumming guitar and singing Joni Mitchell songs!)
Her professional music career began as vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in an original music duo which involved much touring and CD production. Launching her Édith Piaf and Jacques Brel tribute show in 2015, her focus has since shifted to performing vintage popular songs from around the world thereby nurturing her love of international music and language.
Relocating to Montréal in 2017, French chanson has remained a significant part of her repertoire, both as a solo artist and in duo with Curtis.
Curtis is a Montreal-based musician who weaves a rich tapestry of sound with a diverse array of instruments. Discovering his passion for the guitar in high school, Curtis was inspired by artists such as Michael Hedges and Tommy Emmanuel. He quickly excelled not only as a solo finger-style guitarist but also as a member of various bands performing a variety of musical styles including rock, folk and traditional.
He has continuously sought new challenges, expanding his one-man band with harmonica and foot percussion and providing a full rhythm section in his performances with Ariana.
More recently, he has taken up the hammered dulcimer – an American instrument similar to the Iranian santoor – which he showcases in his solo performances to the delight of his audiences.
